Artist's Statement
I live to mosaic and I mosaic to live.
I have learnt to expect the unexpected and to run with it. I stretch mosaic boundaries with modern mosaic methods and thinking outside the square. I mentor mosaic groups and I value lifelong relationships with other passionate and committed people. I consult with experts to ensure product integrity. To me, grout and cement is more than filling or adhesive - it weaves, winds and combines, providing harmony or excitement. Materials guide me to their mosaic destination as they sink into the cement to bring long-lasting beauty. OzMosaics has developed mozBoard – a light-weight mosaic substrate that often forms the core of our mosaics. Fiberglass mesh methods reduce time away from the studio and allow greater involvement when working on community art projects, as well as flexibility and control over large scale mosaic installations.
I work with traditional mosaic placement, contemporary abstract, and sometimes a mix across the mosaic board, creating whimsical mosaic art. Recycled objects combined with traditional tesserae such as marble, I talian smalti, glass, tiles, random objects, mirror and china, provide me with a material smorgasbord. I import glass tiles and am a distributor for mosaic products and tools. An enthusiastic group of mosaic addicts, always keen to jump on board for large commission/community mosaic art works, furthers my role as on-hand educator – to me, a win-win situation! Studio OzMosaics accommodates a workshop and teaching environment which is nurturing and productive, using modern equipment and mosaic methods whilst respecting mosaic tradition.
I am able to accommodate a client’s brief, and expand their mosaic expectations, through my experience at all levels of making mosaics, by honing new skills, and showing innovation in unique situations. I respect the client and the installation site and I am always passionate about a project from conception to installation and beyond.
