Get stuck into an international mosaic project!
This project has now been installed and completed.

The Steve Irwin Wildlife mosaic tribute  ---  The response has been amazing!

Sandy came up with the idea of making a mosaic tribute to wildlife after being so touched by Steve Irwin and his family who dedicated  their life to wildlife preservation and also aimed to educate everyone about conservation - they won the hearts of children worldwide and may parents, with their fun, excitement an infectious passion which is so good to see!

Sandy was going to make the mural with her wonderful mosaic mates in Brisbane and then thought, "why not spread the word and have a wonderful input from other mosaic addicts worldwide"......and wow, it's happening!   Artists are passionate by nature and usually very caring and giving -so it was no surprise what a fabulous response has arisen and now the wonderful members of many mosaic groups are spreading the word about the  mosaic adventure!

Members of the yahoo MosaicAddicts Group mosaic_addicts@yahoogroups.com and interested mosaic artists/groups worldwide are joining in to make a memorial wildlife mosaic as a tribute to Steve Irwin - The Crocodile Hunter from Australia who tragically passed away recently due to an accident whilst filming in the Great Barrier Reef Australia.

Contributors are asked to make/donate a mosaic on fiberglass mesh (fact sheets coming to this website soon) and send the mesh mosaic to Sandy Robertson OzMosaics Australia where the mosaic mesh segments will be put together to make a large wall mural, which will be presented to the Australia Zoo as a gift sometime in 2007.    A dedicated team of mosaic addicts in Brisbane will put the mosaic together at Sandy's OzMosaics studio.

Steve Irwin, his family and his team were passionate about wildlife and conservation and this beautiful mosaic artwork will be a lasting gift for his family to recognize his efforts, from artists worldwide. For more information, join the mosaic addicts group and why not join in the fun and  be included in the making of the Steve Irwin (blog) mosaic tribute by making a mesh mosaic segment for a mosaic wildlife mural!

Contact sandy@ozmosaics.com (if you want the fact info emailed to you email sandy for updates) for further information.

Fact sheets on how to make the mosaic, what's required and information files are being compiled at the moment for uploading very soon to this website and the blog, by Sandy Robertson.  Information will provided on all aspects of the mural.    Watch this space!  For the moment, start thinking about which creature/s you would be inspired to make for the mural - big or small, it will be included in the huge conglomeration of wildlife in the mural.   Works in progress will be shown of the mural in progress and artists will be able to send a fact sheet telling about their artworks, putting down their emotions, why those chose their creature for the mosaic, their tesserae, about themselves and whatever else.

This will all be compiled by Sandy and given free after the mural is installed, to all people who took part in the mural making.  The whole mosaic mural is a non profit project.  Many are donating fibreglass mosaic mesh, tiles, information,  inspiration, their time with blogs, compiling facts and assisting in many ways.  Thanks everyone!   If children want to participate and make some mesh mosaics and/or schools may be interested in making mesh mosaics for inclusion, we want lots of crocs of course!  Crocs Rule by Crikey!   contact sandy for info re school participation in Australia - help is available!

I am very passionate about my mosaic art and find it great therapy as well as smashing good fun.  If you are dead serious about the mosaic art form please take a moment to view the galleries of my art and mosaic art by my students as I believe mosaics are not only about smalti and marble, but are about how you feel and how you interpret the tesserae and how mosaics influences your life style and artistic flair.

Many products work together to form brilliant mosaics and I wish you happiness in all you create.

Cheers and happy mosaicking, Sandy Robertson.

Currently this website is being rebuilt to include an online web shop, (the shop at the moment lists some of the products and I will have all the on-line shelves beautifully "stacked" and photographed.   New wonderful photo galleries will be loaded up soon, showing years of mosaic art by myself and my students and commissions (from start to finish) and the facility to have Sandy "at home" on dvd.  Join the mailing list to keep informed on mosaic happenings..   or put OzMosaics web link in your "favourites" file to visit again!

I hope you enjoy the website;  much is being worked on to improve it, but I am so busy making mosaics I am covered in grout and thinset most of the time!   ... you  may have to plough your way through some of the links and pages, but in time it will be much improved.  Each day I have to make mosaics first and then find time for everything else.

thankyou!

2006 has been an amazing mosaic year at OzMosaics and it's simply flown by.   Without the help of my wonderful friends and family I could not have achieved the incredible mosaic moments that we all shared this year.

The studio has been a-buzz with workshops, classes and mosaic addicts working non-stop on exciting projects. From teaching at schools, at OzMosaics studio, craft and garden fairs, fundraising, art from the heart, community art (Norfolk Island mural was such an exciting time), ABC Garden show stand (see you there in 2007!) and many commissions, it's been a blast!  I have done interesting pool mosaic art this year, murals for airport terminal walls, gigantic balls, had the best time at the Grafton ArtsFest (being a tutor is a privilege) and I have managed to squeeze so much tesserae into the studio.    My mind has been going non stop with new mosaic techniques, which the students love to test out for me. Beautiful fine crafted Lebanese mosaic ire in the studio (exquisite) and available for sale (if you want to invest in fine art, you should consider a visit to view these breathtaking mosaics).    OzMosaics make commissions to make beautiful surfaces so if you wish something special, please consider making mosaic art part of your home or lifestyle surroundings.    The shop shelves are laden with wonderful mosaic waiting to go into Christmas stockings!  Smalti, vitreous tile and wrought iron are in stock.  MozBoard is made to order.

If you wish to give someone a gift that will bring joy, passion, excitement and relaxation consider a gift voucher at OzMosaics - from tool to tiles, workshops or fabulous substrates, glues, grouts and more, shopping at OzMosaics is a mosaic dream come true.

Thanks to all the students who have taken part at OzMosaics workshops, have brought joy to the studio and to me with their excitement, fresh ideas and making me push the limits of my mosaic methods to make mosaics more interesting more fun and demanding to know more!   I am hoping to have the mosaic recipe book, dvd and kits available very soon in 2007 and the ABC gardening show will have some very exciting concepts from OzMosaics.

Thanks to members of mosaic addicts group who read my mosaic madness and keep on sharing mosaic tips, inspiration and what make them tick!   You are all such a fun group.

The studio is open by appointment over the holiday season and we welcome you to drop in (but please phone to avoid disappointment).   Sandy is planning to make some great mosaics for her own garden during the holiday period.

My Christmas wish to everyone is good health, much love, lots of happiness and enjoying the mosaic passion.   May you be surrounded by loved ones and good friends and keep on "smelling the roses!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Sandy and Dave xx
