It's the one everyone has been asking for! We fit them in when we can!
Learn to create mosaic flora - pique assiette and 3-D mosaic methods developed by Sandy at Studio OzMosaics! Sandy is constantly updating her mosaic techniques as she makes mosaics almost 24-7 and delights in sharing new ideas wiith her students at the workshops.
A couple of students have "begged" for a mosaic weekend making a mosaic 3-D picture similar to my Courtyard Door mosaic. Recently, we ran this intense weekend workshop and students made a mosaic picture mural .
OzMosaics provided the substrate board pre-sealed, (on MDF) and stimulated the students with a slide show on the large screen in the studio. It was such fun selecting the patterns and ideas for the mosaics, 8 in all.
Basic patterns, shapes, colours and shadows were considered and students added their own flair.
Students brought buckets of goodies to adorn the mosaic (miniature pots, crockery, tiles, old jewellery, fridge magnets, lace bits, whatever after discussing the details with Sandy prior to the workshop.
Sandy raided her stash room and parted with some precious tesserae to share with the students.
Part of the fun is searching for trinkets you own or fossicking in junk shops such as Lifeline, Salvation Army stores or even boxes in your garage......Sinkers, pebbles, stones, old plates, mirror, beads, shells, odds and ends, weird and wonderful is perfect to smash and nip to make texture and interest in mixed-media, whimscial mosaic art. Learning to mix pique assiette, china, tree branches and shells, was only part of the mosaic magic.
A real mosaic marathon, good laughter, lots of techniques and wild mosaics! Everyone managed to finish (apart from the desire to add more!) The students formed a great mosaic bond with each other and almost to the floor!
Once you know how to shove the shard, cut china, shape beautiful flowers and use wine bottles for foliage, you will be in mosaic euphoria.
Be creative, let your imagination run wild making the mosaic mirror or the mosaic picture in this workshop.
In Workshop A/B students use Sandy’s pre-set patterns to gain important mosaic skills, quickly and efficiently in basic mosaic making. Bring those skills into this workshop and advance to new levels of creativity making your mosaic mirror. Imagine your garden and home decorated with mosaic wheelbarrows, pedestals and balls galore. One you have the skills, you will be able to mosaic and decorate any item that takes your fancy, using the skills from this workshop in the comfort of your own home.
Sandy shows you how to pre-treat the substrate and avoid the pitfalls of substandard substrates for exotic mosaics. How do you make things stick vertically - is there an easier way?
In the Beginner B two day workshops (mini murals 30 x 30 cm) learn use thinset (cement) and grout to enhance your mosaic, not just hold it together! Learn how to hunt and seek out fabulous treasures to recycle and reuse. Sandy has set new mosaic standards in pique assiette. Write your signature in thinset and create vines and uplift to mosaic tesserae.
Sandy is a leader in creating 3-D & mixed media mosaics that are practical, whimsical and original. From rocks, smalti, shells and pebbles, mirror chunks and gems, china and ornaments, there is nothing safe from Sandy's nippers. Combining these with porcelain and mosaic glass tiles is something very special.
You will shown Sandy's very own mosaic methods to pre-coat bottles and glass, do amazing things with mosaic mesh, blings and boings, cut china into flowers and more. Foliage, trailing vines, raised areas, piping thinset coils.....its extravaganza plus! Be prepared for a dynamic mosaic workshop in a class of it's own - the studio will be filled with the sound of china cutting, plate dropping and more and bring chocolate
