keep your 'art pumping!
Sandy Robertson has worked as a professional mosaic artist in many community projects, both in business and a volunteer capacity.
Sandy is always interested to discuss a community art project
Please contact OzMosaics to discuss how OzMosaics can assist you with your project.
Sandy has been an artist in residnece for many Queensland schools and involved with three major projects with Queensland Government Art Built-In.
Sandy is able to work with councils, architects and private commissions in the community at large. OzMosaics has experience in artist in residence programs and teaching students in hospital, special care needs and schools (prep to senior levels).
OzMosaics can provide the expertise required, both in the planning and the materials - and the important "inspiration" - all in a professional manner.
OzMosaics Emporium is proud to have a very active community arts centre!
- it's the core and heartbeat of OzMosaics. Without it, it would just be about the business of mosaics ......and that's just not enough for Sandy.
Be passionART! ! Sandy believes that when you put your heart into your 'art wonderful things happen! Doors open that were shut firmly, new friendships are made, the art form blooms with sharing and caring and the community benefits in so many ways ----the online communities have company and friendships blossom around the world. The hands on work in the community, brings such pleasure and rewards that can never be valued in monetary terms.
Many people are connected in so many ways when they get involved in their community; creativity soars, happiness dwells and many stressed people find calm and fulfillment working again with their hands; taking time to discover themselves, their communities and their inner artist.
Love what you do! From working in the schools, educating the teachers and the students; working in the hospitals providing friendship, company and caring; taking the time to be patient with the disabled and finding ways for them to mosaic too; working with youth and aged and all in between, mosaic art provides a vehicle for Sandy's passion for mosaics. Sandy is no lonely artist in a studio; the days and nights are full; almost 24-7 and the fun never stops, or the hard work. Never a dull moment and the kettle is always on.
Huge community murals are wonderful and draw in enthusiastic mosaic addicts and provide functional and beautiful art. Small projects allow us to give special attention to special people. No matter what the project, it's about the giving and receiving - the sharing. Sharing techniques and being generous is a gift to display in itself as the more people who are involved, the more people are happy.
So, you will find in the community arts dept, much to do and see as Sandy slowly updates the new site.
Sandy mentors youth whenever she can where mosaics are involved...the hands on experience for young people speaks for itself.

Sandy runs the MAANZ (formerly Mos-Oz) stand each year, with mosaic volunteers, at the Reed Stitches and Craft Fair. Sandy's brainchild the now famous campaign "Money in the Dunny" was started many years ago and still thrives. Read about this in the Art from the Heart dept in the community scroll and visit the MAANZ website for more information on how you too can be involved with Art from the Heart. Sandy loves being an artist in residence at schools and is currently the Artist in Residence at Karalee State Primary School, working with the school and community on a gigantic Gaudi inspired chair outside the new Community Hall on the school grounds. This is an incredible project and I invite you to follow the journey. By working with the community and with MAANZ in the Art from the Heart Program, volunteers and Sandy have been able to develop new health and safety tips and tricks - to push the limits and boundaries of what people expect mosaics to be! The joy of mosaics is addictive and the journey is very exciting from the first cut or smash of a tile to the masterpiece that dwells in your 'art.
The best thing of all? The constant communication with people and mosaic art keeps Sandy thriving and always INSPIRED. There is not enough time in the day and if you would like to be part of any community project please contact Sandy - the more the merrier, but be warned, it's a life-time addiction. What a great habit to have!
This could not happen without a very dedicated team of volunteers who rise to every one of Sandy's mad mosaic occasions. A very special mention goes to Shirley, Maureen, Barbara, Brad, Mark, Alison, Pip, Shelly, Shaq, Milli, Madi, The Mesh Man, LL, Graham, Shirley (Polly), Brenda, Jan, Rachel, David and members of the mosaic addicts group. This wonderful online yahoo group cheers us on and supports us in our mad endeavours....by listening and encouraging and simply BEING INTERESTED AND PASSIONATE ABOUT MOSAICS AND PEOPLE!
Dream on.....anything's possible....
