Panel Nine - Wildlife Warrior
This panel is very special. The boots, strong legs and arms are depicted from the photo on the cover of Terri Irwin's My Steve book. The legs, arms and head are carved and cut from slate - a very hewn tesserae. This is to give the strength of Steve Irwin. The face represents Wildlife Warriors past, present and future.
The boots are made from Italian Orsoni Smalti and have a very special message embedded in the thinset.
The panel features many wonderful mosaics from around the world.
The orangutan was made with delight by Sandy and Maureen. The koalas were made by the Endeavour Foundation and others assisting. The wattle is Australian flora melded with banksias, waratahs - so many made by Jan Abbotts.
The platypus, dingo, bilby, kangaroos, crocodiles, lizards, echidna, possums all are beautiful in their own right. The map of Australia is made from glass and came from the USA. The little crocodiles hatching from the eggs remind us of Bindy's joy at watching crocodiles hatch.
The large kangaroo has a 3-D pouch full of wildflowers.
