The September 2011 workshop by Martin Cheek, at OzMosaics Studio was a huge success! 13 students absorbed mosaic inspiration from the mosaic master. Martin's lectures were addictive and the weekend was over all too soon! OzMosaics looks forward to Martin's return to OzMosaics! OzMosaics is now stocking a marvellous range of Martin Cheek's glass mosaic fusings. The mosaic fusings meld beautifully in the mosaic design with vitreous glass mosaic tiles, millefiori, Dynasty smalti and mixed media mosaic materials. Martin recently toured the USA and I met up with him at the SAMA conference in Austin, Texas. His mosaic fusings are very beautiful and you will love including them in your mosaics.

(A great chance to try the Dynasty Smalti! Dynasty smalti is available in a huge, gorgeous range of colours at reasonable prices. High quality! Sandy supplies 2cm x 2cm smalti and guess what? One side is smooth, no pits!)

You will make one mosaic based on your own design.
Martin asks you to bring along two designs to discuss with Martin and select one for your workshop mosaic. Bring a couple of mosaic designs/ideas helps Martin to understand what you are wanting to improve or learn/where you are heading - in your mosaics (eg, colour, cutting, style, personality, etc).

You may use one of your proposed designs or be inspired at the workshop- perhaps with Martin's glass fusings or inspired by his ideas/other students.
The more prepared you are the more mosaic youwill make!
Glass fusions may be ordered in advance from Martin Cheek or select from his supplies.
Students are able to pre-order glass fusions from Martin - but orders need to be placed by mid-June. Otherwise, select from his stock at the workshop.
Eg if you are making a mosaic with butterflies, you may like to include butterfly wing fusions. Enrolled students check with Dave for your instructions re ordering your bespoke glass fusions from Martin. Hurry up, you need to get your design for fusions emailed to Martin by end June, Early July!!!!!!!

What to Bring?
-apron, safety glasses, Leponitts, nippers etc or borrow from OzMosaics/purchase in advance if you wish from OzMosaics.
-note pad, pen/pencil
-camera is a good idea!
-your own box of gloves
-2 designs
-your wheeled mosaic cutters, nippers, file or pre-order wheeled cutters from OzMosaics.
-any special tesserae that works with your design. Contact Sandy to discuss if you need more info.
Morning & afternoon tea is supplied:
-coffee/tea/biscuits.
***Bring any other refreshments please & pop up water bottle (safe to drink at your workbench).
***Please bring your own lunch (suggest something simple such as sandwiches/roll).
We will be busy making mosaics, it's not about the food!
Martin will provide you with an opportunity to learn how to create using smalti, millefiori and glass fusions - Expand on your skills. Martin is excited to help develop your personal style or discuss your mosaic goals.
