Thank you for everything Mum, from the bottom of my 'art.
Shirley Hinkley (Mosaicking Mum) and Julie Glister (my wonderful sister)
My mother is marvellous. As well as being an incredible mosaic addict, she is always 100% behind everything I do, especially in the wonderful world of OzMosaics! My sister is incredibly supportive and seems to be there, just when I need her, without asking!
Shirley would have to be called the mosaic Flower cutting Queen! Being a gardener at heart, her floral mosaic art is exceptional and every petal and leaf is just perfect and it's as natural to Shirley to make mosaics, as it is to dig in the garden and watch it bloom!
Her mosaics are "bloomin' lovely". The way she makes the shapes of butterflies from saucers and flowers has no match - her patterns are highly sought after - simple as they are - they work!
I cannot count the hours mum has spent next to me at the cutting benches or at her home, cutting, cutting, cutting so that incredible borders of flowers and railway tracks in mosaic, come to fruition! We have sat happily side by side, many a night and day, creating some amazing mosaics.
She has also been here for craft fairs, conferneces, student days, my projects, school projects, weekend workshops and MAANZ art from the heart programs. Especially wonderful were days spent with the Endeavour Foundation at our studio and Starlight Special Events here and at the Mater Children's hospital in Brisbane.
It would takes pages and pages to thank her - check out her wonderful art in the gallery. Mum works at the Greenslopes Private Hospital - a member of the Digger's Dozen and currently volunteers on the information desk - I am very proud of her. She is a member of the Shirley Club and has many lovely friends in that club. She toured Europe in 2008 and loved seeing mosaics on her travels with my Aunty Pat. She was very inpsired and it was a wonderful experience for both of them to see the European Galleries and fascinating tours.
She is simply amazing and does it all because she loves me - and also is very passionate about mosaics. Her garden is glorious with mosaics everywhere you turn and nobody does it better.
e have worked together on some amazing mosaic projects.
My sister Julie - what a trooper - during the Steve Irwin Mural she came over and stayed over often to assist me to make the deadline - one night we worked until dawn and I will never be able to fully show my gratitude for that very special evening. Julie makes lovely mosaics too, she completed several workshops here at OzMosaics and I am very proud of her mosaic art. Her home has mosaics on the walls and her garden courtyard features many of my mother's masterpieces and her own beautiful pieces made here at my studio.
Julie, husband Darcy and their fabulous three sons, Jared, Ryan and Travis have all helped and supported Dave and I during our busy mosaic life. Thank you!
