Craft Fair - mural making

For many years, Sandy and the MAANZ Brisbane team of old, hosted a MAANZ (once Mos-Oz) stand at the Brisbane Stitches and Craft Fair, Reed who back then ran the show, went out of their way every year to provide a mosaic community stand and were very supportive. The famous and legendry Money in the dunny Campaign was Sandy's brainchild for Mos-Oz and MAANZ - Sandy's mother Shirley was the star, helping the team and Starlight raise money for Art from the Heart. It takes a lot of coin to fill the mosaic dunny - tossers received a ticket in a draw for mosaic workshops and mosaic gift baskets. Members from Starlight Foundation assisted on the mosaic art stand and the dedicated team from OzMosaics Mosaic Addicts group fronted up year after year.....Shirley became a mosaic legend herself, no one worked harder than my mosaicking mum. We all thank you mum! When children made their wish by placing their hand on the mosaic dunny - two wishes in fact - one for themself and one for a sick child.....we had some teary moments. Australia Zoo suported Starlight, so together the mural making, fund raising merged into a mosaic meaning all of it's own. Hundreds of children and adults threw money into the mosaic dunny for Starlight Kids Grant a Wish. During the mural making for the AZ project, people tossed coins in the dunny for Starlight Grant a wish and also put pieces on the huge crocodiles which are featured on the Australia Zoo mosaic mural panels. The crocodiles are made up of hundreds of "good wishes" tesserae - to Steve and Australia zoo. The team that helped grout the crocodiles, know how much I love them! It was a HUGe job and we did it! The slide show fills in the gaps....amazing stuff! Pictures tell a thousand words.... The media covered the mural making and it was exciting for everyone to see the huge reaction to the mural in the making. MANA will continue to make community art in 2010.
