A group of dedicated carers and clients from Endeavour Foundation Brisbane; mosaic addicts and mosaic mates met up at Studio OzMosaics, several times, to make a beautiful Koala for the Australiana mural panel.
One very special mosaic mate, Rebecca (also known as Cybil and Grid Woman - no one puts tiles in a grid faster than GridWoman) worked very hard at OzMosaics - her enthusiasm reached many hearts and it wasn't long before a happy Endeavour group made the beautiful mosaic koala. Rebecca's mum Shirley also made incredible mosaics for the mural - goannas, snakes, Miss Uluru, hippos and more! The Reptile panel holds such special stories, including the mosaic frilly lizard made at Bunnings, Stafford.
Together Rebecca and Shirley became a constant part of the mural-making team. Shirley Hinkley, Maureen Randolph, Brenda Faulkner were always by our side, encouraging and understanding the special needs for making mosaics with Endeavour. Together we all fitted the pieces together and shared moments we will always hold precious. We learn about ourselves when we help other to grow.
Taking time to teach others and encouraging everyone to make mosaics is very important to everyone at CLUB mOz, the Community mosaic ARENA, MANA and the OzMosaics team members.
Community art projects educate and allow us to communicate through the arts. Find out how we can all work together in 2010, around the world, and share the results in CLUB mOz! Together we grow - the Steve Irwin Mural Tribute project proves that on a large or small scale, working together, sharing and caring, brings out the mosaic artist in all of us! Mosaics is more than tile and glue - it's an expression set in cement.
Endeavour have also contributed to the Park Road Railway mosaic murals - part of Queensland Rail pARTicipation project. Have you seen the mosaic panels at Park Road Railway Station (near the Boggo Road Bus exchange)? So much care, love, skill and enthusiasm is mixed into the mural. Thank you so much Endeavour! I hope to see some of your mosaic projects soon! Happy nipping and smashing - and getting in and grouting! I will never forget the day we grouted the murals for Park Road Station - black grout, black fingers, laugher, laughter, laughter....
